Web & Platform Engineering

Websites engineered to rank, load and convert

A beautiful site that loads in four seconds and ships without structured data is a liability. We build web platforms the way a growth team would specify them — fast, crawlable, accessible, instrumented, and ready for the traffic your marketing is about to send.

The redesign that made everything worse

We get a lot of rescue calls that begin the same way: a site launched, it looks great in the deck, and organic traffic fell off a cliff. Redirects were not mapped, meta data did not carry over, the new template renders its content client-side, and the hero image is a 2 MB PNG.

Design and engineering decisions are marketing decisions. Where the H1 sits, whether content exists in the initial HTML, how fonts load, whether a form works on a mid-range Android on a slow connection — each one moves both rankings and revenue, and none of them can be bolted on afterwards.

Sound familiar?

  • Traffic lost after a migration because redirects and metadata were never mapped
  • Content rendered only in JavaScript, so crawlers and social scrapers see an empty shell
  • Mobile Core Web Vitals failing while desktop looks perfect in the demo
  • A CMS so awkward that marketing files a ticket to change a headline
  • No analytics, no schema, no sitemap — a site nobody can measure or find

What we build

From a five-page launch site to a multi-tenant platform — same engineering standard throughout.

Marketing & brand sites

Fast, animated, content-managed sites with a page architecture designed around your keyword map and conversion paths, not around a template.

Ecommerce & headless commerce

Shopify Hydrogen, headless storefronts and custom checkouts built for catalogue-scale SEO, fast filtering and a checkout that does not leak.

Web apps & SaaS platforms

Dashboards, portals, booking systems and multi-tenant products with real authentication, roles, billing and audit trails.

Headless CMS integration

Sanity, Strapi, Contentful or WordPress as a headless backend — structured content models your marketing team can actually use unaided.

Performance & Core Web Vitals

Image pipelines, code splitting, edge caching, font strategy and render-path work until the numbers are green on a mid-range phone, not just a MacBook.

SEO & migration engineering

Server-rendered or pre-rendered routes, per-page metadata, schema, sitemaps, and redirect maps tested before launch so migrations do not cost you rankings.

Custom software

Software shipped continuously, not eventually

Tested, reviewed and deployed through an automated pipeline to edge infrastructure — so fixes land in hours and features ship every fortnight, not every quarter.

How a build runs

  1. Scope & architecture

Goals, page architecture, keyword map, integrations and a fixed-price scope. You approve a plan, not a vague estimate.

  2. Design & prototype

Clickable design in your real content, reviewed on mobile first. Changes are cheap here and expensive later, so we resolve them here.

  3. Engineer & instrument

Component build, CMS modelling, accessibility passes, schema, analytics and a staging URL you can watch fill in week by week.

  4. Launch & hand over

Redirect map, pre-launch SEO checklist, Lighthouse sign-off, documentation and a training session. Then 30 days of post-launch support.

Rendering strategy decides whether you get found

The single most consequential technical decision in a modern web build is how the HTML reaches the browser. Fully client-rendered applications ask every crawler, social scraper and AI assistant to execute JavaScript before they see a word of your content — and many of them either will not, or will not wait.

We choose per route rather than per project. Marketing and content pages get static generation or server rendering so the HTML is complete on arrival, with metadata and structured data present in the initial payload. Authenticated dashboards, where SEO is irrelevant, stay client-rendered for interactivity.

When an existing single-page app cannot be rebuilt, pre-rendering at build time is the pragmatic middle ground: crawlers get real HTML per URL, users still get the app experience, and social previews stop showing an empty page.

Performance work that survives contact with real users

Lighthouse on a developer laptop is a lab score. What decides rankings and revenue is field data — real visitors on real devices and networks, which is what Core Web Vitals in Search Console reports.

The work is unglamorous and specific: serving modern image formats at the right dimensions, reserving layout space so nothing jumps, deferring third-party scripts that block the main thread, preloading the fonts actually used above the fold, and splitting bundles so a landing page does not download the entire application.

Third-party scripts deserve their own mention. Chat widgets, heatmaps, pixels and tag managers routinely cost more performance than every image on the page combined. We audit them ruthlessly, load them late, and move what we can server-side.

Accessibility, because it is the same work as good engineering

Semantic HTML, proper heading order, real labels on form fields, visible focus states, adequate contrast and keyboard-operable components make a site usable for people with disabilities — and, incidentally, easier for search engines to parse and cheaper to maintain.

We build to WCAG 2.2 AA as a default rather than a premium add-on, test with keyboard and screen reader, and honour reduced-motion preferences so animation never becomes a barrier. For organisations with procurement or public-sector requirements, this is frequently the difference between winning a contract and being disqualified.

Web Development FAQ

Web Development: your questions, answered

Everything prospective clients ask us before signing — without the sales gloss.

A focused marketing site with a CMS typically sits in the low thousands of dollars; ecommerce and custom platforms scale with integrations and complexity. We quote fixed price against a written scope after a discovery call, so you never receive a surprise invoice mid-build.

Five to eight weeks for a marketing site, eight to sixteen for ecommerce or a web application, depending on content readiness and integration count. You get a dated plan up front and a staging link from week two.

Not if the migration is engineered rather than hoped for. We inventory every existing URL, map redirects one-to-one, carry metadata across, preserve or improve content depth, and run a pre-launch checklist. Rankings usually improve after launch because the technical foundation is better.

Yes. We model content properly in a headless CMS so every block a marketer needs is editable, with previews before publishing, and we run a training session plus written documentation at handover.

Thirty days of support is included with every build. After that, most clients move to a care plan covering updates, monitoring, backups, security patching and a monthly allocation of improvement work.

Frequently. We can build from your Figma files and brand system, extend an existing design language, or handle design ourselves — whichever gets a better result for your timeline.
